Yogas (Planetary Combinations)
The combinations that concentrate fortune, wealth, power or challenge.
A yoga is a specific planetary combination that produces a defined result. Hundreds are described in the classics; a few well-known families account for much of practical analysis. A yoga’s strength depends on the dignity and placement of the planets forming it — and its results unfold during the dashas of those planets.
Major yoga families
- Raja yogas
- Links between kendra (1/4/7/10) and trikona (1/5/9) lords — power, status and success.
- Dhana yogas
- Connections among the 2nd, 5th, 9th and 11th lords — wealth and gains.
- Pancha Mahapurusha
- Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn strong in own/exalted sign in a kendra — a “great person” yoga (Ruchaka, Bhadra, Hamsa, Malavya, Sasa).
- Gaja-Kesari
- Jupiter in a kendra from the Moon — wisdom, reputation and respect.
- Budha-Aditya
- Sun and Mercury together — intelligence and communication skill.
- Neecha-bhanga
- Cancellation of debilitation — a weak placement redeemed, often giving rise after struggle.
