Star Match is the traditional way to check marriage compatibility when exact birth details aren't known. It needs only each person's nakshatra (birth star) and pada - no date or time of birth - and scores the eight kootas of Ashtakoota Guna Milan out of 36.
Sivayan derives a representative Moon position from the chosen nakshatra and pada (which also fixes the Moon sign), then runs the same production Ashtakoota engine used in full kundli matching. The one thing it cannot judge from stars alone is Mangal Dosha - that needs the full birth chart.
