Kaal Sarpa Dosha (or Yoga) forms when all seven classical planets - Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn - fall on one side of the Rahu--Ketu axis. Because the nodes are always opposite each other, they split the chart in two; when every planet is caught in one half, the karmic axis dominates the horoscope.
