Vedic astrology uses 16 divisional charts (Varga or Amsha) alongside the birth chart (D1) to study specific life domains in depth. Each chart is produced by dividing each zodiac sign into a number of equal parts and mapping planets into those segments. The most widely used are the Navamsa (D9) for marriage and dharma and the Dashamsa (D10) for career and profession.
Sivayan computes all 16 standard vargas using the Parashari rules with Swiss Ephemeris for maximum precision. Select any chart, enter your birth data, and see the planet placements and house assignments for that divisional chart instantly.
Key divisional charts
D9 Navamsa
The most important varga after D1. Used for spouse analysis, dharma, and the "fruits" of the birth chart planets.
D10 Dashamsa
Career and professional achievements. A planet strong in D10 supports material success in its domain.
D3 Drekkana
Siblings, courage, and innate initiative. Also used in medical astrology for body parts.
D2 Hora
Wealth and prosperity. Even signs (Taurus, Cancer…) are Solar Hora; odd signs (Aries, Gemini…) are Lunar Hora.
D7 Saptamsa
Children and progeny. Studied when assessing fertility and offspring.
D12 Dwadasamsa
Parents and lineage. Also used for inherited traits and ancestral karma.
Common questions
A divisional chart (Varga) is produced by dividing each 30° zodiac sign into equal parts and re-assigning each planet to the sign that corresponds to its position within that division. Different divisions reveal different life domains.
Yes, after the birth chart (D1). The Navamsa is used universally to assess marriage, dharma, the strength of planets in their maturity, and as a co-ascendant for spiritual and inner life.
A planet that occupies the same sign in both D1 (birth chart) and D9 (Navamsa) is called Vargottama - it is considered highly fortified and operates strongly in its domain.
Yes - precise birth time is especially important for divisional charts beyond D1 because even a few minutes of error can shift the ascendant sign in faster-moving vargas like D60.
