Avakahada Chakra is a classical Vedic table that maps each of the 27 nakshatras to eight fundamental attributes. These attributes are derived entirely from the Moon's sidereal nakshatra at birth - they never change and form the foundational layer of Vedic Ashtakoota compatibility analysis. Each of the eight Ashtakoota kootas tests a specific Avakahada attribute against that of a prospective partner.
Sivayan computes these attributes from the sidereal Swiss Ephemeris - the same engine used for all chart calculations - and displays them with their classical definitions.
The eight Avakahada attributes
Gana
Temperament classification: Deva (divine, gentle), Manushya (human, mixed), or Rakshasa (fierce, independent). Used in Gana Koota - same-gana partnerships are most harmonious.
Yoni
Animal symbol and gender. 14 animal pairs for 27 nakshatras. Yoni Koota assesses sexual and instinctive compatibility - same-Yoni or friendly-Yoni animals are preferred.
Nadi
Energy channel / Tridosha constitution: Adi (Vata), Madhya (Pitta), or Antya (Kapha). Nadi Koota is the highest-weighted koota - same-Nadi couples score 0 and face health/progeny challenges.
Varna
Social/spiritual classification: Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, or Shudra. Varna Koota scores 1 if the groom's varna is equal to or higher than the bride's; 0 otherwise.
Rajju
Body-part classification: Sira (head), Kantha (neck), Nabi (navel), Kati (waist), or Pada (feet). Same-Rajju couples are considered inauspicious for longevity.
Vedha
The "opposing" nakshatra - born in these two nakshatras, a couple is considered incompatible and should avoid marriage.
Tatva
Pancha Bhuta element: Agni (Fire), Prithvi (Earth), Vayu (Air), Jala (Water), or Akasha (Ether). Used in elemental compatibility analysis.
Vashya
Dominance classification based on Moon sign. Describes who influences whom in the relationship - five categories from Dvipad to Jalachar.
Common questions
Primarily for Vedic marriage compatibility analysis (Ashtakoota / Kundali Milan). The eight Avakahada attributes correspond to the eight kootas tested in Ashtakoota: Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot, and Nadi.
Yes - Nadi Koota carries 8 out of 36 points in Ashtakoota and is considered the most critical health and progeny indicator. Same-Nadi couples score 0 in Nadi Koota and are traditionally advised against marriage, even if their total score is high.
Rajju Dosha (also called Mahendra Dosha by some) occurs when the boy and girl share the same Rajju (body-part group). It is considered a serious incompatibility traditionally, though some astrologers cancel it based on other chart factors.
Yes - the Moon changes nakshatra approximately every 13.3 hours. Without a reasonably accurate birth time, the nakshatra could be off by one, making all Avakahada attributes incorrect. If the Moon is near a nakshatra boundary, even small time errors matter.
