In Vedic astrology, marriage potential is read primarily from the 7th house (spouse, partnerships, and desires), the 7th lord, and the natural significators Venus (for men) and Jupiter (for women). The Navamsa (D9) divisional chart is the most important secondary chart for marriage - it shows the quality and longevity of the partnership, not just whether marriage occurs. The active Vimshottari Dasha involving the 7th lord, Venus, or the 2nd/11th lords typically coincides with marriage.
Sivayan's marriage profile engine applies the full classical Parashara scoring: Bhava Bala for the 7th house, Venus and Jupiter Shadbala, Ashtakavarga SAV scores for the marriage houses, Navamsa dignity of Venus, Mangal Dosha detection, and yoga analysis for Kalatra Yogas. All output is deterministic and traceable to specific chart placements.
What the marriage profile includes
Partnership potential score
A 0--100 score from: active Dasha quality (0.35), 7th house Bhava Bala (0.20), 2nd house (0.08), 11th house (0.07), Venus Shadbala (0.15), Jupiter Shadbala (0.07), SAV for marriage houses (0.08).
Factor breakdown
Per-factor scores with classical weights. Hover over each factor to understand which house or planet is driving it. Red and amber factors identify areas requiring attention.
Mangal Dosha detection
Mangal (Mars) Dosha is flagged if Mars occupies houses 1, 4, 7, 8, or 12 in D1 - with severity grading. Standard cancellations are applied (Mars in own sign, Jupiter aspecting, etc.).
Navamsa assessment
Venus's Navamsa dignity is checked as a proxy for the D9 marriage quality. An exalted or own-sign Venus in D9 adds a strong positive signal; a debilitated Venus in D9 is flagged as a risk.
Kalatra Yogas
Active marriage-specific yogas - Kalatra Yoga (7th lord strong and well-placed), Lagnadhipati yoga, and other classical formations that indicate early, happy, or multiple marriages.
Dasha timing
The current Mahadasha/Antardasha is shown alongside the score. Marriage usually occurs in the Dasha/Antardasha of the 7th lord, Venus, or the depositor of the 7th lord.
Common questions
The 7th house (spouse and desires) is primary. The 2nd house (family and speech) indicates family acceptance and second marriage in some schools. The 11th house (fulfillment of desires) is activated when marriage manifests. Marriage Dasha is typically the Dasha/Antardasha of: the 7th lord, Venus (for men) or Jupiter (for women), or the 7th lord's dispositor.
Mangal Dosha (Kuja Dosha) is checked in the D1 chart only (some schools also check D9). Mars in houses 1, 4, 7, 8, or 12 constitutes Dosha. Mars in 8th is considered most severe. Standard classical cancellations are applied: Mars in own sign (Aries/Scorpio), Mars in exaltation (Capricorn), Mars with Ketu, Saturn or Rahu aspecting Mars, or a matching Dosha in the partner's chart.
The Navamsa is the 9th divisional chart (each sign divided into 9 parts of 3°20' each). It is considered the primary chart for marriage quality, spouse nature, and dharmic fulfillment. A strong Venus in D9 - or the 7th lord well-placed in D9 - indicates a supportive, lasting marriage. The Navamsa is also used to cross-check whether the promise seen in D1 actually manifests.
Kundli Matching (Ashtakoota / Guna Milan) compares two charts for compatibility across 8 areas - Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot, Nadi. This Marriage Profile analyzes one chart structurally for marriage timing and potential. They are complementary: the profile tells you when and how marriage is likely; matching tells you whether a specific partner is compatible.
