Ayurveda and Vedic astrology (Jyotisha) developed from the same classical framework and share a common language: the five elements (Panchamahabhuta) — earth, water, fire, air, and ether. This is why a birth chart can meaningfully point toward Ayurvedic constitution, not as a separate add-on but as a natural extension of the same elemental logic.
The three doshas, briefly
- Vata (air + ether): movement, communication, creativity — prone to anxiety and irregularity when imbalanced.
- Pitta (fire + water): metabolism, intellect, drive — prone to inflammation and irritability when imbalanced.
- Kapha (earth + water): structure, stability, endurance — prone to sluggishness and weight imbalance when unbalanced.
How the chart maps to elemental type
Each zodiac sign belongs to one of four elements — fire, earth, air, or water — and the ascendant sign, its lord, and the Moon sign together give the strongest signal toward an elemental tendency. Fire and air signs lean toward Pitta and Vata respectively; earth signs lean Kapha; water signs often blend Kapha and Pitta depending on the specific planets involved.
Why the lagna lord matters most
The lagna lord’s own nature — which planet it is, and which sign and house it occupies — modifies the base elemental reading from the ascendant sign. A fire-sign ascendant with its lord placed in a watery sign, for instance, tempers the pure fire (Pitta) signal rather than reinforcing it outright. This is why two people with the same ascendant sign can still show a different elemental balance.
What this is useful for
Knowing your elemental tendency is a starting point for lifestyle awareness — the kinds of imbalances you are more prone to when out of routine, and which general Ayurvedic principles (diet, activity, rest) tend to suit your constitution. It complements, but does not replace, an actual Ayurvedic consultation, which examines the body directly rather than inferring from a chart alone.
Read your own elemental type
Sivayan’s wellness analysis derives an elemental body-type read from the lagna, its lord, and the 6th/8th houses together, alongside the same Shadbala-based strength calculations used throughout the platform — giving a chart-grounded starting point rather than a generic sun-sign guess.
